We’re Going Green!
The islands of Hawaii have a delicate eco-system and it is our responsibility to ensure that our resorts don’t impose upon the land but rather lend to it and be inspired by the beauty of it. Hawaiian Hotels & Resorts is committed to helping improve its footprint on the environment by implementing new green initiatives and programs. The green efforts at the Royal Lahaina Resort and the Royal Kona Resort complement the area’s surrounding beauty, coastline and outdoor recreation areas.
Royal Kona Resort Green Practices:
- Recycle glass, plastic and aluminum
- Use CFL low-energy lighting wherever possible
- Use energy-efficient chillers
- Purchase local island-grown produce and products for the hotel restaurant and bar
- Purchase soaps, shampoos, lotions and cleaning supplies made in Hawaii
- Offer guests the choice of replacing linens daily or on every third day
- 100% non-smoking resort with designated outdoor smoking areas
- Embody the Hawaiian practice of Ho’okipa or hospitality by hiring nearly 100% of its staff locally
- Maintain an Hawaiian burial site on property
- Use of native plants in landscaping
Royal Lahaina Resort Green Practices:

- Re-use gray water for irrigation
- Purchase local island-grown produce and products for the hotel restaurants and bars
- Offer guests the choice of replacing linens daily or re-using them throughout their stay
- 100% non-smoking resort with designated outdoor smoking areas
- Embody the Hawaiian practice of Ho’okipa or hospitality by hiring nearly 100% of its staff locally
- Use of native plants in landscaping
- Offer Hawaiian heritage lessons, cultural programs and activities to guests
