It's surprising that this hotel is a 3.5 star. It's perfectly located on a quiet stretch of beach. The beds are very comfortable, rooms are updated and well kept, the service is great. I recommend snorkeling at Black Rock---I saw huge sea turtles right off the rocks! This hotel is a wonderful value and you are not giving up anything for the value. Great choice

My husband and I went to Maui and stayed at the Royal Lahaina for our honeymoon. We initially picked this hotel for the great on-the-beach location and the lower price. It was perfect for what we wanted. We stayed in the renovated tower and the rooms were really nice and new - the restaurants at the hotel were good and had a really fun outdoor bar. You cannot beat the location - it's absolutely gorgeous on the beach right out the door with views of the other islands. I would certainly stay here again and recommend it highly.

I stayed here with my husband on a quick short trip to Maui for a friend's wedding. I was recommended by a co-worker to stay at this hotel. He told me it was recently renovated and that it was a nice place to visit. So I decided to take the leap.

From the looks of the outside of the hotel, it looks old. But once you get inside and especially into your hotel room, it's completely renovated. The rooms were extremely comfortable and nice. I was completely surprised! The bathroom and decor is modern so it felt new and clean. It was definitely worth the cost that we paid to stay here.

The hotel is also close to the Black Rock which is about a 5-10 minute walk but has great snorkeling. We also ate at the restaurant downstairs which had amazing food.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to find a nice value priced hotel because this is definitely it!

Stayed at Royal Lahaina for 4 nights after stays in Honolulu and Kauai. My wife and i loved this place. The staff was tremendous. We valet parked our car and our bags were taken to our room as we checked in. The bell hop gave us tour of our room showing us the safe, refrigerator, closets, robes, how to work the air, balcony doors, tv etc.. No other hotel did this. The staff was friendly not just to us but to each other. Several guests we spoke to commented on the same thing. We only ate breakfast here and like any resort the 19.99 for a breakfast may be a little steep but the food was good and all your coffee, juices etc... were included. Happy hour at the bar looking out at the ocean at sunset was perfect with Mai-Tais the best we had had anywhere on our 14 day vacation. Bartenders were very friendly and the guitarist/singer was mellow and very good. We were looking for relaxation and comfort on Maui and this is what we got. Our valet parkers treated us like gold and gave us great directions and good restaurant ideas. Desk personnel were also extremely happy. Our room was Deluxe Ocean view on the Ninth floor. the view was great and the room was immaculate. Everything was brand new. I mentioned we were there for our anniversary and that night when we returned to our room a bottle of champagne and a card awaited us. A very unexpected but nice touch. All we expected was a nice room, a nice beach, and friendly people. We got it all. I would highly recommend this resort, it's location is second to none and my wife and I looking to return.

"A wonderful vacation - we enjoyed every minute/fantastic beach/superb staff"

We enjoyed every minute of our wonderful vacation at the Royal Lahaina.

We especially enjoyed the resort’s long sandy beach, tropical gardens, and the very large lawn for sunbathing. We started each day with a delicious buffet breakfast at the oceanfront Terrace restaurant. This was followed by a long walk on the oceanfront “beach walk” - which brought us to all of the activities of the Kaanapali beach area (including the Whalers Village museum, shops and restaurants).

The spectacular sunsets, the Royal Lahaina luau, the live Hawaiian music at the Terrace restaurant, the beautiful birds, and the moonlight shimmering over the ocean at night were all very special. During our visit, we saw many whales breaching, dolphins jumping and turtles swimming in front of the resort. The tennis and golf facilities were extraordinary, and all of the sightseeing activities of Maui we easily accessible.

The very friendly, and professional, staff and employees of the Royal Lahaina made our vacation very memorable. We are looking forward to returning next year.

We stayed at the Royal Lahaina for a week and I just had to write a review. It was above and beyond what we expected. We had an ocean view room on the 12th floor and our view was awesome. We arrived at night so didn't know exactly how great it was until the next morning...were we ever surprised to see it. Absolutely all we could have wished for. We had a package deal and breakfast was included each day. The buffet was delicious, especially the omelets and the fresh fruit. One of the things we really liked was the fact we were so close to the ocean. Just walk out the door and you're nearly on the beach. We could see whales from our beach and room too. As we walked down the beach in both directions we noticed there were many nice resorts, but none were as close to the water as we were. I must say this is the first time we've gone to a resort and not seen others nearby that we would like to try next time. We'll definitely return to the Royal Lahaina on our next visit to Maui.

Stayed at the Royal Lahaina over Christmas. We thought they were fantastic. We were close to the beach. Loved the privacy and the nice patio. It was totally quiet and beautiful. Yes the bathrooms are older, but the amount of sand teenage girls bring in --- please!!! The staff were great. Girls played tennis at the ranch a few times. Very nice courts. The beach at the Royal Lahaina is the best. We walked a lot and the Sheraton and the other nice hotels had crowded. narrow beaches that were a lot steeper. Loved going to the town of Lahaina in the evenings. Will go back and stay at the cottages again. With teenagers it was just so nice to walk out to the beach -- no elevators and just beautiful views and flowers!!

This was our first trip to Hawaii and Maui was every bit it was hyped up to be. We loved the place and we stayed at Royal Lahaina for all the 6 days. The location was great, had lot of privacy on the beach compared to other hotels at the Whalers village. Our room was perfect with a beautiful view. The staff was friendly, the pool was great! The Luau was famous in the area although we did not attend it. The hotel is a short walk from the whalers village where you can find shopping and water activities. All in all, we loved the place and would totally recommend it.

We stayed here for 3nights and what we liked best about this hotel was that although it was a little older looking in the public areas of the hotel it had a really old school Hawaiian feel about it and because it's not a massive hotel the service was a little more personal. Our rooms (ocean View) however were all newly renovated and were so beautiful with a great view over the beach and gardens below. Bathrooms were clean and a decent size. As this resort is at the very north end of Kaanapali the beach has hardly anyone on it compared to further down near the Sheraton & Hyatt etc.

The hotel is about a 10-15min easy walk over to Whalers village through the golf course which was handy. We also booked some tours through the tour office just outside the lobby and Daisy May helped us there - she was GREAT! So friendly and knew her stuff which was very much appreciated!

The bar staff were really friendly and fun to chat to and made the BEST Mai Tai we had in Hawaii! This hotel would be great for families and couples alike & although the 2 pools are a little smaller than some of the other resorts - there is a world class beach no more than 15 steps away so a pool is not needed in my opinion.

Overall a really laid back hotel with great staff!

My husband and I recently went to the Royal Lahaina Resort for our honeymoon and I was truly impressed. They upgraded us to a partial ocean view, which worked out because the other view was of the mountains. The room was beautiful, the restaurant had great food, the pools were nice and clean, and the walk to the beach was very easy. Honestly, I'm a tough critic, and I would recommend any of my family and friends to stay here. Because it was our honeymoon, we contemplated staying at a bigger name hotel, but we got our money's worth right here! I definitely want to go there again!

After a long day travelling my wife and I finally arrived at about midday to a very welcoming reception. We checked in and were escorted to our room on the 5th floor which was immaculately presented. King size bed in moderate size room with most modern conveniences provided. The view from our lanai was far beyond our expectations, absolutely beautiful looking out over Kaanapali beach and surrounding grounds. We spent 7 wonderful days enjoying our accommodation complex and exploring other locations around Maui. Snorkeling at black rock was a highlight of our stay. Hoping to return someday and would not hesitate in recommending THE ROYAL LAHAINA

Yes, you should stay here!

My hubby and I stayed here for our anniversary. I scoured the internet for months looking for the best hotel/condo to stay in on Maui. I have NO regrets staying at Royal Lahaina. The hotel itself is as magical as Maui itself.

When I walked into our room Sunday evening after a LONG flight, I was immediately at ease. There was an absolutely breathtaking view of the ocean and sunset. I just melted. Not to mention the rooms are nicely decorated. I loved all the wood decor. The tile shower was great and relaxing. Also their toiletries were really nice. It was a lime coconut scent that was really good.

The next morning we ate breakfast at the hotel. It was REALLY good buffet. I thought it was pricey ($20 per person), but actually after eating at other restaurants, this is actually a good deal. If you want something quick and light, they have a little cafe on the premises that sell bagels, donuts, fruit, juice etc. We ate there a couple times.

The pool area is cozy and is right in front of the ocean. If I could go back I would do a few less activities and spend more time just enjoying the hotel. I just smiled the whole time I walked around the hotel. There is light Hawaiian music playing everywhere. It just oozes Aloha. It wasn't a crowded hotel either which was great. Lots of people we met on various activities bragged they were staying at more expensive Sheraton or Westin, but we walked around those places, and it wasn't really worth the money from what we saw.

The location of this hotel is also perfect. It is right near Black rock which has AWESOME snorkeling just a few feet from the beach. It was like swimming in a fish aquarium. I didn't see any sea turtles though =( RL is also close to Whalers Village which is REALLY nice! I wish we had checked it out sooner than our last night.  Plus the hotel is right off the 30 highway which easily gets you anywhere on the island quick. About 10 minutes from Lahaina and 30 minutes to airport.

I PRAY that we can go back soon. I truly left my heart in Maui. I plan on staying at Royal Lahaina. It is the best deal with an amazingly cozy hotel.

My husband and I stayed at The Royal Lahaina from June 21 -26. We loved every minute and would love to plan a trip back someday. Upon arrival we were upgraded to an Oceanview suite and had a bottle of champagne in the fridge. The room was large, and the bed was comfy. The staff was helpful and always smiling. Our room was cleaned every day and was always spotless. The beach was beautiful and we were at least 40 feet away from the people next to us. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this hotel. It's perfect for everyone (families, honeymooners, etc.) and you will not be disappointed if you stay here!

We just returned from an 8 night stay at the Royal Lahaina Resort. We had such a relaxing stay. The rooms in the tower looked new, and the best part is that they were very quiet. What a great view from the rooms and the restaurant/lounge. Several evenings we sat in the outdoor lounge sipping our MaiTai's and watching the beautiful Hawaiian sunsets. And the Luau at the resort was a highlight of our trip.

My husband and I concluded our Hawaiian honeymoon at the Royal Lahaina on Maui. It was fantastic. The ocean view room was on the 11th floor of the tower and it had a perfectly stunning view of Molokai and Lanai!! It was beautifully updated and the bed was so comfortable. Also, we could sit on the balcony at night and listen to the music of the luau. The service at this hotel was exceptional (from the valet to the front desk) and probably the best we had on any of the islands! I would absolutely return to this hotel again!!

Couldn't have asked for a more. This resort was the last night of our 6 night vacation, having a split stay on both Maui and Oahu. The first person to greet us was the gate attendant who checked our names from his list with a genuine warm smile and "welcomed us home and invited us to relax" as he directed us up the drive to the lobby/check-in. Talk about first impressions!

Upon check-in the staff was quite friendly and accomodating and although we recognize it's out of the ordinary, we were pleasantly suprised and honored to have been upgraded to a 1 bedroom ocean-view suite.

The room was beyond our expectations. We stayed in a 1 bedroom lanai suite on the 12th floor. The suite had 2 bathrooms, a separate living room area, 3 lanais, and view that pictures can't do justice. *I've stayed in many hotels/resorts and this is one of the few times that I didn't want to leave the room (a large statement given the ocean/beach that awaited outside).

We felt like royalty and the staff ensured we were treated as such. Each encounter with the hotel staff was similar; from the staff at the restaurant to the bellmen, to cleaning staff, each was friendly and went out of thier way to ensure all needs were being met and each guest was being attended to.

I understand they recently underwent a renovation and have had some mixed reviews in the past but rest assured, our stay was marvelous and we would return in an instant. Great service, great value, highly satisfied!

We stayed at Royal Lahaina Resort from April 20th to April 28th... We had a wonderful time at this resort. I have traveled a bit for my vacations, I've even been to Maui before, but I have to say, there is no place like Maui.... It's God's gift to us, people on this earth....
About Royal Lahaina... I was a bit confused when one day I would read positive review, the next day, negative review... I did not know what to make out of it, that is why I wanted to take a few minutes and write about my experience at Royal Lahaina Resort. I traveled with my sister and my 18 y/o and 10 y/o nieces, we arrived late at night about 1030pm on Monday night, the minute we pulled the car in front of the resort, this young man came to open the door for us and lead me to the front desk, while I was checking in with the most friendly lady there, my car was being unloaded and the lugage was being taken care of, I upgraded to an ocean front room, I figured I don't come to Maui everyday, therefore I want the best there is for me and my nieces. I was on the 4th floor, right in the middle with full ocean view, breath taking.... the bell boy brought my stuff upstairs and I had asked him for a vending machine to get some cold water, instead he showed up a few minutes later with 4 botles of water, complimentary from the hotel staff, since everything else was closed, I guess... That little gesture meant so much to me, when I was so tired, travelling since 6 am and being on 2 planes for more than 9 hours and also loosing one plane, than having to drive from the airport to the hotel in the dark on a rainy night.... I was exhosted, all I wanted was cold water to drink, a good shower and a bed... I got them all... the shower had so much water pressure, was just great, the room was outstanding, the decor, the cleanliness, and NO SMELL !!!! The bed sheets, were white as snow and so crisp, than the bed....oh my Lord... the best matresses ever..I spend $3,000.00 on my mattresses at home and they are not as good as the ones from Royal Lahaina Resort.... I, actually all 4 of us slept like babies that night and all nights :)
In the morning we got to actually see where we were at, WOW, the view, the landscaping, all kinds of flowers and plants... so well maintained and manicured, the beach.... my it was beautiful, just gorgeous... and to top all that, the staff was unbelievable, they were so friendly and always with a smile on their face at anytime of the day... There were some classes on Hula Dancing, LEI making, and Puka shell necklace making, which my 10 y/o old had to attend them all, she had such a great time... she got to bring home the Lei and of course her Puka necklace and she constantly does the Hula for us... The people teaching the classes made us feel so special by being so friendly and telling us places to go eat with the locals and places to visit.... They were the best !!!!!!!!
I don't know what to say but that I miss Maui and the people from the resort, on the day we left the staff stopped us to say good bye and to ask us to return soon, which of course I will, I would not want to dissapoint my new friends.... I loved, loved Royal Lahaina, can't wait to go back, same room, same place..... Mahalo to everyone at the resort, until we meet again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"4-star hotel, 5-star value"

We stayed at the Royal Lahaina for 7 nights in March 2009, and were very impressed with the resort. The grounds are beautifully kept, and the location is excellent. Infamous "Black Rock" is a 2 minute walk down the beach. On the other side of Black Rock hotel prices seem to be double the price of the Royal Lahaina. In my opinion, the beach is just as nice at the Royal Lahaina, but Black Rock certainly is great for snorkeling. There is a complimentary shuttle bus that takes you to the other side of Kaanapali if you don't feel like walking, but the pathway along the beach is hardly a chore to stroll along.

The lobby of the hotel is dated, but the architectural details are beautiful. We had a partial ocean view tower room, and it was excellent. The rooms have been completely updated, but the Interior Designers did a great job of making it a modern Hawaiian style. The room features beautiful wood built-in furniture and details. The bathroom is well appointed, and each room has a nice deck with floor to ceiling windows. When in Maui, one generally has to accept dated styling in hotels / condos, but this is not so at the Royal Lahaina. I would go as far as to say the rooms are finished better than the majority of the high-end hotels on the strip (Hyatt, Sheraton, Marriott etc.).

The restaurant / bar in the hotel is good, and there is nightly live music. The pool area is nice, and it's only steps to the beach. There is a cafe and ice cream shop if you don't want to sit down and have a meal, and if you walk 5 minutes up the road there are a few restaurants.

We walked through most of the Kaanapali, Walea, and Kiheh resorts, and our conclusion was that the Royal Lahaina was hands down the best value per dollar. Stay there soon though, because I'd bet that in the near future the rate-discrepancy between the Royal Lahaina and the other high-end Kaanapali resorts will be no longer!

Will definitely go back! I LOVE Royal Lahaina!

Was there for a week and I want to go back already! I loved Maui and the resort!
beautiful place, helpful and very accomodating staff, loved all the little extras like the fresh pineapple water in the lobby and the cool washcloths ! I don't know how anybody can complain about this place, the beach is amazing, the pools are not that big but who cares when you have the ocean a few feet away?!! the grounds are beautifully kept! On the first day me and my daughter went to a Lei making class in the morning and it was sooo much fun, they always have activities going on like Hula lessons or bracelet weaving. We stayed in the tower in one of the rooms with a partial ocean view which was breathtaking. I still can't get over the beautiful blue/turquoise ocean water! Maybe a few things might need updating but I wouldn't change a thing, I love the old Hawaiian feel of the hotel, it made me think of Elvis! But if you like those big all inclusive resorts with huge pools that you have to walk 2 miles to get to and no personalized service and NO beach don't come here! Oh.. and their Luau was spectacular ! it was so much fun my kids loved it! I can't wait to go back ! Mahalo Royal Lahaina ! for making our holiday so special!

Lovely room, excellent staff, great location... we will be back!!

My fiance and I had a lovely time at the Royal Lahaina Resort in Maui, We loved it so much that we cut our trip short in The Big Island to return to this fabulous hotel in Maui. The rooms were recently refurbished and were fresh and luxuirous but still in harmony with the Hawaiian theme. Our room which was the Deluxe Ocean View Room was overlooking the beach and we could see whales having fun ever sunset. It wa spectacular. All the staff were really friendly and helpful and the resort had daily activities on to keep us occupied. The famous Luau was in the hotel as well so we did not need to travel far. It was such an amazing place and I would highly recommend it to anyone. It was far enough from the rest of the other hotels on the beach but close enough to walk from one hotel to another to Whalers Beach where the shopping centre is.

My husband and I booked our wedding and accommodations with the Royal Lahaina Resort. We were upgraded to the ocean view cottage suite, which was amazing! Beautiful views, clean, with kitchenette and lots of living space. The staff was friendly and quick to help with anything we needed. The wedding coordinator helped us in having the wedding of our dreams, and our reception was a family gathering at the Royal Ocean Terrace Lounge, where there is music and hula dancer nightly. The beach was clean with soft sand. I would recommend renting a car to get around the island, (this hotel has a valet parking package that gives you 2 free mai tais per day) and research restaurants, as food can be very expensive. Well worth it!

I won a trip for two to Hawaii at a Detriot Pistons game last season, and I picked this resort for my stay based on the reviews on this site. My wife and I got there on New Year's Eve and left 10 days later, we had the best vacation that we have ever had in our entire lives. When we got to there the staff at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. Our room was great, big flat screen TV's, the beds were like sleeping on clouds, and the furniture in the rooms gave you a home-made feel.

The royal ocean terrace restaurant/bar had great seafood/sushi. I recommend the ahi poke! We spent a lot of time at the barefoot bar watching whales breach and spout all day, enjoying some local beverages. The bartenders were awesome, Richard & Bill - thanks guys! They told us everything we needed to know about the area and what was fun to do and where to go.

We spent a lot of time by the pools and on the beach. They have 3 pools, 2 by the resort and one up by the tennis court. Who needs a hot tub when it is 80 degrees outside? The pools aren't the greatest, but they serve their purpose. Brian from the activities center told us about the two great snorkle spots that were a 5 min walk up or down the beach. We rented gear from him and saw all kinds of sea turtles, tropical fish, and great coral. Renting a cabana for a day is a great idea, facing the ocean, and working on that tan.

The Ka'anapali trolley is a great free way to get to whaler's village, and from there you can take the Maui bus for $1 to get to Lahaina. We didn't rent a car and this was the best thing because the trolley runs all day and night and you can get to and from some fun spots without having to worry about paying $10 a day for parking at the resort. Harold is the day driver and a real nice guy.

We were there at the end of the holiday rush so we got to see the place empty out after the first weekend of the year. The whole first week of January we practically had the whole place to ourselves. The beach is great and the water was warmer than the pools. We went to the luau on a Wednesday, they perform this luau everyday of the week, so the dancers really knew the routine. They roasted a pig in the old Hawaiian fashion which was neat. The buffet and open bar were good, plenty of tasty dishes to try, and the bartenders have perfected the Mai Tai. A good suggestion is to pay the extra $15 per person to go to Don the Beachcomber at 4pm, you get VIP seating right up front and an extra 90 min of open bar. This bar is only open for the couple of hours before the luau. It is like a time warp because you can tell that place was built in the late 60's and hasn't been updated since. It has real character, and I wish that they would keep it open all the time, or do some updating to it. I loved that place, even though I only got to hang out there once.

Our overall opinion about the place was great, going to Hawaii in general is really expensive, so why not save a bit of $$ and stay at a place that has a great location, even though it might not be as new as the other places. It is right on the beach, and there is never a bad day in paradise.
Mahalo!

Royal Lahaina Resort

Exceptional oceanfront location!  Exceptional service!  The employees at the Royal Lahaina Resort provided fast friendly service from the moment we arrived. Happy valet/bell attendants, cheerful front desk assistants, engaging wait staff and ocean activities attendant.  This resort makes you feel special in every way.  The room offered amazing views of the ocean and beach/pool area (we stayed in a 6th floor oceanfront), but even the Gardenview room views provide lush mountain scenery with a partial oceanview.  The beds was awesome (hard to get my teenage son out of his!) and the room was comfortable and tastefully decorated.  The beach was never too crowded.  The luau was fun with great food and has an outgoing MC that engages the audience and really makes you feel a part of the event.  I have recommended this resort to friends and family (advised my cousin to stay here on her honeymoon and she loved it!) for years and will continue to do so.  Thank you for helping to make our vacation ultra relaxing and worry free!

- Tish, Blue Sky Tours

The Royal Lahaina is a great oceanfront property. The rooms are comfortable and nicely appointed, great ocean views! They have a friendly staff and the grounds of the resort are well kept. Luau is right there so there is no need to go anywhere else!

- Robert, AAA Travel

Upon arriving, there's someone helping you with your bags right away, you're greeted with a big smile from everyone. The room we stayed at had a great view of the ocean, The rooms were very clean, they supply you with plenty of towels and plenty of soap, shampoo and conditioner. When we sited the property I was beyond amazement, the rooms have been updated with beautiful furniture. Some rooms have views of the ocean as well as views of the mountains. The hallways have been updated as well. They also have a soloist that performs every night. The restaurant at the property has really good food and the staff is very friendly. The Royal Lahaina Luau is one of the best Luaus I have been too.

Over all I really enjoyed my stay at the Royal Lahaina. The property was beyond my expectations.

- Marlene, Blue Sky Tours

We stay at the Royal Lahaina during September 09, we had a great experience. The hotel is renovated in good taste, the room was very clean and beautiful. The pools and the beach was accessible and clean. With any request that we came up with we got an immediate response. The hotel location is excellent close to shops and restaurants. In above all the service was great, the staff was kind and always willing to help. We had a great time and as an experienced travel agent I will surely recommend the Royal Lahaina.

- Tali, ET Travel

Our stay at the Royal Lahaina Resort was amazing.  The beach in front of the property is beautiful but if you prefer there are 2 pools that are very spacious and well kept.  The grounds of the property are very well manicured which was perfect for our evenings out on the lawn to watch the sunset.  The rooms are beautiful with spectacular views.  The Royal Lahaina Luau is a must see. Great fun for all ages.
